Default networking problem

i recently got a computer in my room and i have another computer in my family which is connected to a wireless router. i have a network set up between the 2 computers but i have trouble accessing the family room files from my computer. everytime i try to access the family room workgroup computer, it says i don't have permission. im also having trouble getting my printer (hooked up to family room computer) to show up when i try to add a network printer. can anyone help me?

Are both in a workgroup together ? Do you have simple file sharing enabled ? Do you the correct permissions setup to allow the "Everyone" group to that folder ?

Do you have the printer shared ?
Do you have it "Connected" and set as default on the living room machine ?

i had simialr problems and i foudn that on my computer with norton internet security 2005 installed the firewall was blocking it so you have to configure norton firewall to allow connection...that and what the other guys said make sure windows file sharing is enabled and also you need to allow this in norton

Yes, disable firewalls and AV's until you can successfully share/access.

In your ACL set the everyone group to full permissions.
You may want to "unshare" the folder then share it again with the everyone group set to full perm's....

To share... access the properties of the folder. Go to Sharing. Make sure its set to share this folder.

In the security tab you will find the ACL. Select the everyone group and set it to allow full permissions.

The problem was with my firewall and i fixed it but now i have a new problem. now when i try to connect to the host computer, i get a message "Logon failure: The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer." and when i try to add a printer, a login screen comes up with the user name FAMILYROOM/guest (which i cant change) and i have to enter a password. i dont know the password and i dont no why it is password protected.
