Default networking 3cpus via ethernet

ok, i have two buddies over. can we network 3cpus together using ethernet cables? 2 desktops and 1 laptop. one desktop has two ethernet ports. we can only link two cpus together and it says the second cable going to the 3rd cpu is unplugged. is there a correct way to do this? do we have to set something up? quick replies will be appreciated.

you'll need to use two crossover cables and create a network bridge on the desktop with two nics.

Have everyone put in $20 and get a router. You could even find one for cheaper then that at stapes or somewhere if you look around a bit.

csasamuels idea will work for free if your a cheapskate but will eat some system resources on the comp. with the two nics (only a little). and you won't have to carry a router around.
