Default Network Securtiy. is mine at least... ok?

Hi, just a question about my networkÂ’s security.

I have a Belkin 802.11g router ( http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=136493 )

with one wireless desktop pc, one wireless laptop and 5 wired pcÂ’s.

In order for me to access files on one computer from another, I must have the windows firewall disabled. But I have the firewall on the router enabled and also a “passphrase” for wireless access.

Is all of this ok?

And I guess by true question is: what else can I do other than go and buy firewall programs.

P.s. while we are on the subject, what are some good firewall programs that I can purchase if necessary.

Pre-thanks for your replies.

lets talk about firewalls for a moment... A hardware firewall (in terms of your router) can stop all unauthorized entries into a port. A software firewall (windows firewall) can stop all unauthorized information sending from your computer (think spyware/adware/etc..) So it is nice to have both, but all you REALLY need is the router, if you don't want hackers that is. But if you are carefull, and don't download bad software, you won't need the windows firewall..

I would go with Zone Alarm Pro for just a Firewall, but if you want a utility suite i would go with PC-cillin internet security 2005. It has AV, firewall, network security, anti-spam, anti-spyware and some other stuff, plus it is very reasonably priced and much better than norton.
