Default network printer sharing

I have a printer on my network (basement computer) shared with my upstairs machine. How much network activity does this utilize? I've just noticed lately that my basement machine has constant in/out network activity. I thought at first that I had spyware or a virus that was sending and receiving data, but I've done every scan and had logs from different programs checked on this and other forums and nobody can see any problems.

I just wondered if the printer sharing is causing this network activity. I installed Zonealarm and when the firewall had the machine locked up, of course there was no activity in or out, but when I added my network IP range to the trusted zone, the activity began again.

I just want to make sure that there's nothing on my system that's not supposed to be there.
