Default NETGEAR wireless

i just recently got a cable connection to my house and it's hooked up to my desktop. i want to share internet connection with my brother so he bought netgear WGT624 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router. I went through the instruction manual on how to setup but it's still not working. my desktop is connected to the router via cable and he wants wireless. Can someone please walk me through this process because i don't know what i'm doing and what i'm getting myself into. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!!!

make sure ssid, channel, wep/wap settings on the wireless nic and router match. You should be able to view these settings by looking at the properties of the nic.

I would recommend you turn off all encryption until you have the network up and running. One person needs to log in to the router with a lan cable (plug it in and open a web browser, and type in the appropriate ip address... my netgear is 192.168.0.1 you could try that or you could read the intructions ) once there, make sure: The SSID is whatever, ie Big Red Router or something. turn off all encryption (WEP and WAP are types of encryption) and keep all other options as default... if you're not sure what defaults are, try resettin the router to default factory settings (read instructions to find out how to do this, i has a tiny button you needed to push with a pin) and start from there.
Also, make sure your IP settings are being automatically designated (network properties ---> tcp/ip, configure ----> automatic)... um what else.... oh yeah, reset the router and modem, and wait for a minute. turn on the modem, and after all the lights are on, turn on the router.... maybe im being no help at all... these are the things that helped me on a number of ocassions.

when i got the router, i turned off my modem and desktop. Connected the router to the modem and hooked up port 4 on my desktop. i turned on the modem first, then turned on the router, then turned on the desktop. i clicked on IE and typed the address of the router. after that, i did the setup and changed the pw. i also recall clicking "test" and "apply." after all that, i exited IE and then went to network places/properties/TCP/IP/properties/dectect IP automatically/ok.

That's all i've done to the desktop. My desktop is running Ok. i have internet. My brother's laptop however, does not have internet access. i went to control panel on his laptop, click on the wireless icon, and entered the correct SSID. I tried going online after but failed. i clicked "view wireless internet access" but nothing comes up. isn't there an icon that should show up with the netgear ssid or something?

Please let me know on what i can do.
