| NETGEAR DG614 or a D-Link DI-704P I am looking at hooking up to Optus Cable at the end of the month. With that being said, I am going to need to replace my current NETGEAR DG814 DLSMODEM/ROUTER/SWITCH with a ROUTER.
I am not interested in Wireless as my house is all ready cabled.
So I am tossing up between a NETGEAR DG614 or a D-Link DI-704P.
Over all they have similar features. The D-Link does come with a printer server (which is not going to get used).
Over all, I am looking at the following 2 factors :-
1. PRODUCT REALABILITY
2. HOW EASY IS THE MANUFACTURER TO DEAL WITH IF SOME THING GOES WRONG.
- Telephone Tech Support
- Turn Around On RMAs.
Please note that I live in Australia

| Netgear of course.....
Check out this article. PC Mag started with a great review....and the article is nothing but true! Very good "out of the box" for beginners.
But.....check out the three member reviews below the article!!!
Clearly, you will find both + and - on both products. But, in my professional opinion, stay away from D-Link products.
I've never called them, but I do hear from clients that Netgear's support is not too great. D-Link definatly tops that category.....but as for a reliable product, D-Link falls below my expectation.

| Yeah... Been doing a bit of research on both products. I think I will keep my current faith with Netgear.
Okay, there RMA is next business day, but it's at least I can talk to some one 24/7.
Although you can push that if you are nice to them. Like I a managed to get my existing DG814 replace right no new years eve as I clearly told to tech support that it would put me about 5 days behind if I wait for the replacement (EXTRA LONG PUBLIC HOLIDAY LONG WEEK END)
I think I would rather have a better product with lesser after sale support.
Tell you this, there is no way I am using NETCOMM with there 10 working day turn around time on RMAs. It clearly state this on the RMA form.

| I been using the DI-704UP router for a year now. I choose this one for the USB print sever at the time. It has been very reliable and was easy to set up. The one time I did call for technical help was when I needed to control access to the internet for my kids. The help desk in my opion was excellent. A simple conversation and within 5 minutes I was on my way. This does not mean this would be the case with everyone. |

| I have a netgear wgr614. It has a minor bug, it occationally turns all secure pages into complete gibberish, even its own html based interface. Other then that its been good.
