Need Advice on Cable need for Router
A friend of mine wants to run a cable from his router (his bedroom) to his sons room so his son can access the internet.
What type for cable should he buy?
CAT 5?

Most probably a standard CAT 5 with RJ45 plugs...
Depends on the router and his sons computer ports I guess.

Cat 5e cable, it is all you can really get. FCC regulations is that you can only run Cat5 or higher on an ethernet based network.

very important aspect there. You want CAT5e UTP straight-through cable............ NOT a CAT5e cross over.

Ahh, good call gentlemen. Something that is overlooked alot. Chances are though, he will not get a crossover cable, as they do cost more than a straight through. But good looking out.
