I have a HP pavillion ze5300 laptop. The problem is that when I dial-up with no ac power, everything works fine. When I plug in AC power and try to dial-up, modem doesn't work. I repeat this process back and forth and when I am on battery, modem works fine. Have ac power, modem doesn't work. I am thinking a possible short. Any ideas?

IMO it sounds like hardware. Try dialing then unplugging the AC and see if it stops. If it does give the manufacturer a call.

I tried that and it stops. HP has already looked at it and stated that nothing was wrong. Gotta love that tech support. Thanks.
