Default internet problem after xp service pack 2 update

I am not able to connect to the internet after I performed an xp service pack 2 update. After doing an IPCONFIG, the forced IP address doesn't pop up. It retains the old IPaddress. What is the problem?

SOS! Has anyone had this similar problem?

I tried erasing and renewing the IP address, but nothing really happened. Old IPaddress still remains.

SOS!

Did you check if your configured for a static IP or obtain one automatical through DHCP.

You would find this in Control Panel>Network Connections>Double click active connection>Properties>click TCP/IP> Click Properties.

There will come a day, such a day when all will be told more than they wish to know, what one hears may explain the past, it may explain the future, but it has never made a difference either way and it will change nothing. Some day.... But that is not this day, and I don't know when, I just don't know.
