Look in the documentation for the modem or call your ISP and put the modem in bridge mode
How to put the modem in bridge mode. (My ISP says as long as I am able to connect to internet, I don't have to keep it in bridge mode. I can't tell them I am using the router)

I searched the net and found somebody asking on similar problem with same modem I am using.

Paradyne 6211 ADSL & Linksys WRT54GS

But what this means? I can't figure it out. Please anybody explain?

-------------------
"You need to have the router LAN IP address on a separate subnet from the modem. If you're going to give the modem 192.168.1.1, put the router LAN address on 192.168.2.1. If the modem is on 192.168.1.1, you should not be able to ping it thru 192.168.1.2."
-------------------

Where to find router LAN ip.?
Where to find modem LAN ip?
How to keep them on different subnets?

thanks!

why can't you tell the ISP that you have a router?

If you directly connect the PC to the modem, you should be able to connect to it with IP Address 192.168.1.1.

Also, if your modem is doing DHCP, and has IP address 192.168.1.1, and the router also has IP address 192.168.1.1, then you will have problems... they can't have the same address.

Guys, THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY who took time and answered my silly questions.

Here is the solution:

1. I login in to my Router web interface using http://192.168.1.1 and changed the LAN ip to 192.168.2.1 from 192.168.1.1 (my modem already has 192.168.1.1 as its LAN ip)

2. And I changed the 'Start IP' to 192.168.2.100 from 192.168.1.100
'End IP' to 192.168.2.199 from 192.168.1.199.

From now on you have to use http://192.168.2.1 to login router web interface.

Viola. Router interface working!

thanks!
