What stopping me to surf the internet?

That means your computer is connected to your router and is able to communicate with it. Your cable modem has to get the signal from your ISP first. If you got a new one and didn't tell your ISP or they didn't set the MAC address correctly, you won't get on the internet.

Got it. Where to set this MAC address ? In router web interface OR modem web interface? (If I call my cable office they don't like me using a router. right?)

I really appreciate your time.

The MAC address will be printed somewhere on the modem itself. You have to call your ISP and they have to add it to their side of the world. Some ISP's don't like their signal being routed, but you don't have to tell them that. Just call and say you had to get a new modem and they can do the config needed on their end.

They said MAC id will be added to their system automatically.

Now what I have to check?

My question is why though I am seeing 'internet connected, Speed 100.0 mbps' icon in taskbar and not able to surf

thanks!

That would be because you are connected to your router and getting signal from it. Have you done any configuration on the router? If you bypass the router you still can't surf?

Yes. I followed all instructions in router manual and configured it. It was working with my previous modem. After new modem, the circuit (phone line > modem > router > PC) not working.

Yes. If I DIRECTLY CONNECT the modem to PC, I can surf.

May be some router settings that are still pointing OLD modem are not updated towards NEW MODEM? But what are those settings?

thanks!

There has to be a setting on the router that will allow you to change the MAC address for the modem. The problem clearly is somewhere before the router. If your ISP says it is picked up automatically then it would be a modem-router communication issue.

Ok you say when you are connected directly to the modem you get a 192.168 addy, which means that modem has some kida router on it.

Look in the documentation for the modem or call your ISP and put the modem in bridge mode
