Default Internet Gateway - why it is disabled?

Last week, my modem was chipped off, so I had to buy new modem.

Phone line > Modem > PC is working:
* I can connect to internet.
* Network connections showing only LAN 'Connected'.
* NO 'Internet Gateway' icon.

Phone line > Modem > Router > PC is NOT working:
* I can not connect to internet.
* Control panel > Network connections showing 'Internet Gateway' icon disabled.
* But LAN showing 'Connected' though.

I checked router with my friends computer. It is working there.

Basically same router and PC but new modem.

Don't know where/what to configure.

Anybody has any idea?

thanks.

Cable/DSL modems are MAC filtered by your ISP. If you didn't tell them you got a new modem you won't be getting a signal.

Hook it direct to the modem and do an ipconfig and tell me what you get.

How to do ipconfig? 'Hook it ...' means hook up the router to modem?

Oh, you need to setup the router with your DSL information. Look are the manual about setting up the router.

What kind of router do you have?

When you have the router connected to the modem, go to the router's configuration page, and see if it lists the public IP address (the IP address that the router gets from the ISP).

Where to look? I am using 'Nexxt solutions' router.

Showing the following:
IP address: 192.168.1.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

ONE MORE THING: AFTER CONNECTING ROUTER IN BETWEEN, I am seeing internet connected icon saying 100.00 mbps. in the taskbar. Internet connected, but not able to surf.
