Default internet connection problem.

I was trying to get one of my old box (PIII with Windows XP) into the internet. I can ping 127.0.0.1, result shows good. The is no problem on the NIC. I also went to device manager and checked it, it says device is working properly.

I have another computer of the same configuration and system. It connects to the internet or intranet (as a client). But the one, above mentioned does not connect. I have then, formatted it and reinstall XP, still does not connect.

1. Device manager shows nothing problem on NIC
2. Loopback successfully return.
3. There is no problem from ISP.
4. Formatted and reinstalled OS.

Then where is the problem ?

Pinging loopback address confirms that layers 7-4 (I think) are working properly.... It doesn't go all the way through the protocol stack..

Please describe the topology of your network... Is this connecting through a wired router, wired through another PC, or wireless? Also, what does your PC have for an IP address? Perform an 'IPCONFIG' in a command prompt, and let us know.

EDIT: Pinging 127.0.0.1 should prove layers 7-3... sorry..

There is your problem... your PC isn't getting an IP address. Make sure your DHCP server is set up correctly, or create a static IP address on that computer (make sure it is in the same subnet as the gateway).
