Exclamation Internal network and virus

Having an internal network setup through windows is it possible for one infected computer pass a virus to the others on the network or just if you download one virus file from an infected computer, meaning that other uninfected files wont cause any problems?
How do you prevent the spreding of virus in internal networks?

Yes some viruses attempt to travel over your network. Usually a firewall along with good anti-virus software can stop it.
