Is it a highspeed USB device in an older USB port?

How did the machine connect to the interweb before this issue?

Have you tried other USB ports when plugging in the modem?

[1st test]

Shut down the machine.
Unlplug the MODEM from whatever USB port you have it in.
Power on the machine.
Plug the modem into ANY usb port.

What happens? Does it say "New Hardware Found"?
Document everything that happens. ex: notices? prompts for installs? anything would help.

I am having a hard time understanding exactly what the problem is.

From what I understand:

You have a new modem that connects to your computer with a USB cable.

Your computer is not accepting the USB connected modem.

There is a light somewhere that keeps flashing on and off.

So lets start over...

You have the "Cable" Coax cable plugged into the back of the modem right?

You then connect the Modem to you machine with the USB cable right?

Did you get any software for the modem that you need to install on the machine?

Ok... Sounds like a bad USB port.

Have you tried another port?
Did you notice if it says anything about Highspeed device in a lowspeed port? or anything like that?
