Default Having a problem with my internet access

Hi all,

This is going to be an easy fix for all you experts out there. But, I just have no idea what I am doing. I recently bought and installed a 802.11b wireless pc card adapter in order to set up a wireless internet connection at home.

After installing the adapter and hooking up the wireless router, I just couldn't get it to work. So, I am trying to revert back to my old non-wireless connection. But, since I installed the wireless adapter, I can't connect to the internet the way I used to. I ran a network diagnosis and this is what failed:

DHCPServer=192.168.0.1 (FAILED)
DNSServerSearchOrder=192.168.0.1(FAILED)

I understand that some sort of connection is trying to be established with this IP address, but I don't know why the connection is failing. All I know is that this IP address is not the IP address of my machine.

Any advice would be much appreciated!! I have no clue what a DHCPServer or a DNSServerSearchOrder is, so when you respond, please keep that in mind.

Many thanks!!!!

Well you need to provide some information first.
Which operating system, and how are you connecting currently? Straight off a cable modem to your pc via enet/usb, or are you connecting through the router still?

Well, your pc probably needs to be brought back into sync with your modem. Try pulling the power source from your modem, and restarting your pc, once your pc beings that process, plug the power back in to the modem. Double check your enet cable and make sure it's tight from modem to pc.

If, upon reboot, it doesn't connect, open up the dos prompt by typing cmd in the run option, then get your ip address by typing ipconfig.

An address of 169.254.x.x or 192.168.x.x will require a glance into your device manager to see if that wireless card is causing a conflict to your enet card.
If the wireless card is enabled, rclick it and disable. Then try ipconfig again and see what your enet connection gives you for an ip address.
If you still get 169.254.x.x, call your ISP. If you get a 192.168.x.x let me know and I will give you the next step.

Go to your control panel, and into network connections. Right click the lac that pertains to your enet connection and choose properties. On the box that comes up, double click on Internet Protocol(tcp/ip) and make sure it's set to obtain an IP address automatically, and dns server addresses automatically.
Click the advanced button on the ower right, and under gateway make sure there is no information.
Click ok until you get back to the lac itself. Right click again, choose status, then hit the tab that says support. Click the repair button, and then hit ok when it's done. Your ip address should no longer read 192.168.x.x, but be something different. At that point, close out everything and get to your desktop and launch your browser and you should be able to connect fine.
