i have done this with my ps2. but i have ps2-linux. if you are going through a router you do not need a x-over cable. the only time you would need a x-over cable is if you are connecting nic to nic. try using the x-over cable from the nic on ur computer to the nic on ur ps2. that would work...or a regular rj45 from ur router to your ps2 nic. if you are going to use a x-over cable to get ur ps2 online, you are going to have to enable and use internet connection sharing(ICS). that will set the nic on your computer to use the ip of 192.168.0.1 ... you will have to set the default gateway on ur ps2 to 192.168.0.1 instead of 192.168.1.1 which is what you are probably used to because of the router. But, if you just run a regular patch cable to your ps2 from the router you will need to set your ps2 to use dhcp. that should work. good luck.
you have to have a hdd, usb keyboard and mouse and the linux for ps2 disks. http://playstation2-linux.com/..... but its sold out. ill sell you my cd's for $200 U.S.
