Firewire networking?? - Help

HI.
Can anyone help me.
I'm trying to connect my laptop to my desktop via a firewire cable so that i can back all my files up.

However the 2 can't see each other.
I've tried changing the i.p address and gateways, but nothing.

Any advice?

To connect two computers via firewire, you'll need special software. It does not work as a usual network. Check out documentation online for doing this. You can try Creative.com because I know they have the software as retail with their hardware. Maybe they have it online aswell...

This articles sheds some light on the subject. It's at the bottom. Anyway, if you are not using ME or XP then you are out of luck. Not sure on the Mac side of the realm, but they should be able to, cause they created the interface...

Could you tell me how exactly you managed to set this up? I am trying to connect 2 computers running WindowsXP through a firewire cable. It is a bit of a struggle.
Are there any help sites / forums? Is there any software that could help? Thank you.
