Hello all,

I am trying to save my office a few dollars and set up a network myself. I am semi-computer savvy, but do not know much about networking. We are in an office with five computers, which are all networked together. Our office manager is pregnant and trying to work from home. She needs to be able to access all the files on our computers in the office and edit them as necessary from her laptop at the house. I do not know how to set this up, if anybody could help it would be greatly appreciated. Also, the office computers run XP Pro with a T1 connection, and the laptop is an XP Home with a cable modem. Well what is your computer currently running? Windows XP Home?

TightVNC encrypts it's password authentication but it doesn't encrypted the rest of the data and is a potential security risk over the Internet or a remote location. Make sure if you're using it that you create some kind of secure tunneling between the VNC client and the VNC server. http://www.tightvnc.com/faq.html

This product does the same thing, but you don't really need to remotely view the desktop like TightVNC or RDC. The ability to act like a FTP client/server saves bandwidth when you're on a slow dial up connection that only need to download or upload files. Plus, the data is always encrypted by default, providing greater security and less hassle than setting up a secure tunneling with TightVNC. Disadvantage, it's not free, but it's cheap for just 1 license.
