benzimm86 is on a distinguished road

Send a message via AIM to benzimm86
Default file locked for editing

I have a document that is used by a macro process (Macro scrapes employee information from a Terminal Emulator then formulates a letter detailing employee history, just FYI) on a network drive. All of a sudden, we are getting a "xyz_template.doc is locked for editing by 'another user.'" message.

Numerous clerks use the setup, and the 'open as read only, notify or cancel' dialog that comes up is unwelcome and confusing to them.

Of course, no one is actually editing it.

Searches on the web have suggested there might be a .tmp file in the directory where the doc is, but so far none discovered.

Word 2000. Windows 2000.

Has someone dealt with this preplexing error before? This is causing massive confusion back there.

Thank you very much for any assistance.

What you could do, is save it to a different location, or just simply save it as another name in the same spot.

office politics will become famous soon enough

Default

after this occurs, goto the pc with the document, open computer management, open shares, open 'open files'. this will tell you which machine has the file open.
