Default equipment needed for wireless network

I have satellite internet from direcway, and I am looking for the right equipment to run a home wireless network. I know I need a router, but I am not sure what a switch is for and if I need one.

most soho routers come with switchports integrated with the router. But for wireless, you will not use switchports.

wireless router
and a wireless nic for each pc.

yes, the switch allows you to connect devices by using a network cable.

But again, the wireless router will also act as a switch. It will have the hardwired ports for you plug into your xbox, and computers that will not be wireless.

Also, the Xbox does have a wireless adaptor that you can use if you do not want it wired. I think they are a bit pricey though.
