Thanks for the kind reply.
You presented us with a problem, to which I replied with STEP 1 of ANY standard trouble shooting... PHYSICAL LAYER. That is why I put, "pretty stupid question". That step is something that more people than you THINK would overlook. Example, getting everything set up but using the wrong kind of cable, not plugging in the power cord.
If this is going to be the nature of your replies, to STANDARD trouble shooting steps, you might have a rough time seeking future help here. A simple 'Yes, the router is plugged in, and on, and the cables are connected to the PC' would have answered my initial question, and it is less words to type out.....
Also, I don't see that you replied to the post before mine, regarding the 'IPCONFIG /ALL' in a command window. If you perform this command, and get 0.0.0.0 or 169.X.X.X as your IP address, then you are not getting an address from the router. This can be for a number of reasons.
*Does the network connection on your computer show 'cable un-plugged?' or is it connected?
*Have you updated the drivers for the NIC?
*Does the router and NIC have LED lights ON that indicate the cable is connected?
If you can't patiently answer the questions we presented you, then please, seek help from somewhere else. I am fairly new here, but I try to help out. We don't get paid for this. Actually, right now, I have spent some of my lunch break at work typing this out.
