Default A couple questions about Verizon Fios internet service

1) Does it work well with internet gaming? I currently use DSL and get decent pings on games like Team Fortress 2 and such. Will Fios help, hurt or perhaps remain the same in this area?

2) Under the About Installation section on their site (http://www22.verizon.com/content/con...stallation.htm)
It mentions that installation is free for your primary computer but you need to pay $90 bucks to set up additional computers. Does this mean I couldn't hook up two computers through a router to this service like I do with DSL and like you can do with cable? Is there some special installation that needs to be done to each computer that would require this extra payment? Or is this extra payment just for those who aren't network savy and would rather pay than set it up themselves?

Any help is appreciated, thank you

Tough to answer Question 1, as I do not have FIOS, and ping times will be different for everyone, better to ask any neighbors that may have it, since they are in the same region, and data is going over roughly similar path's.

Question 2, You should be able to have them set up a router for you between the PC and whatever equipment they use to terminate the fiber, and from there, you can connect additional PC's at no cost. I suspect the additional cost is for setting up the LAN for the customer.

Hey, i have FiOS. It's actually a really good internet. Except the part where they lie to you and say they can never remove it from my home. Thats the only downfall of it. You should think about it very well because It's something they cannot change after it is put back. I cannot afford it anymore because it is like 50 dollars or something when i used to havea a 15 dollar dsl. But yea it is quick and all but they cant change it back. Good Luck

From what I have read, you can get amazing download/ upload. And because it is Fiber Optic. Ping times are great.

I have FiOS as well, for question 1 it depends on the package you get for most non HUGE cities the packages should be 5/2 (40$), 15/2(50$) 30/10(i think its 130 or 160; but in my friends area when it started it was only 80$)

1)you will notice better ping times if your down/upspeed will be greater than what you have now, of course your upspeed will problaly be higher since DSL/Cable have sucy upload speeds.

2)This question troubled me as well, but i tihnk they are basically going to do a network set-up/wireless setup. In my house i have a room in the master bedroom that has all of the houses Coax/Cat5-e cobles routed to there, They ran the fiber right into my room, but the router is in the closet so i can just hook it up easily. MAybe what they are referring to is Running the fiber itself to two computers, needless to say just ask for ne room they will give you an Actiontec Wireless router for free, so you can just run Cat-5 or use wireless for oyur other pc's

As for the person that said you can never remove it from your house, i don't know who told you that but i can cancel the service if i want after 1 year or before your second month starts. As in never remove it from your homeI think you are refering to the actual fiber not the service, SINCE THEY WILL RUN FIBER INTO YOUR HOUSE FOR OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE.

Also so you know they will be installing some equipment either inside or outside of your house. I told them to do it inside siince i didnt want them to ruin my new house. It will be a Backup battery for the FiOS in case the power goes out and you need to male a CALL, and two other boxes, i dunno what they are for but the just have the cables inside of them. i PAY FOR fIOS,INTERNET, AND FiOS PHONE.
