I just put together my first PC, and after I installed the wireless adapter, antenna, and driver, I dont get a connection to the router that is downstairs. What other steps do I need to take to get a connection? Thanks alot!

I intsalled the wireless adapter, and it says I have a "very good connection", but it also says that I need to renew my ip address. SO does that mean I have to enable the ip address from the computer downstairs (with the router) on my new pc? Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to fix this problem, I would be eternally grateful!!!

Also, how can I find the username and password, and how do I enter it in once I get it?

Rnewing your ip address is easy. Here are the instructions
Start>run>type cmd>press enter>type ipconfig /release>afterwards>type ipconfig /renew. Don't worry about the username and password, because you haven't encripted your connection yet. Finally, it would help if you could give me the name of the router.

The router is a Belkin, and I figured out that my problem is that I need to "Assign a network address," so how do I do that?

Do you know how to get to your routers setup??? Normally, all you have to do is type in 192.168.1.1 and a password. Out of the box the password is normally admin. you really need to change that to something you will remember. Major security risk if not changed!!!!!
Your router should be configured to obtain ip address automatically. Go into start>connect to wireless device>connect to it. It will ask for name. That is your SSID. Afterwards it will probably give you a warning that its not protected. You should get a connection anyways. Post again and i will tell you how to secure it....

I would first of all get the thing working by disabling any firewall and encrption.
Once this is done then add on your security bit by bit until you have it set up. I have a Belking wireless router/modem you can dynamically assign your IP address so that you dont have to mess around manually assigning IPs.

What model do you have?
