| I am having problems adding a computer to my network. The two current computers are working fine, ICS is working, shareing etc... The third computer has the nForce 4 chip set if that has any bearing at all. The host IP:192.168.0.1. I have that set as the default gateway on the third computer. All firewalls are disabled. Anyway, I am at a complete loss I can not even get file and printer shareing to work and when I ping 192.168.0.1 it times out. The same cable worked fine on an older computer and also works fine with PS2. I am fairly sure it just has to be the new box as nothing has changed but the new computer. Please ask for info as you see fit and I will try to get it. Thank you in advance for any help ![]() |

| Dope Tech | Whats your physical setup? What cables connect to what machines? What type of cable are you using?

| Have you tried using another NIC card? I had the same thing happen and it ended up the NIC card died. Wasn't too big of a deal, picked up a cheap Linksys one for $10. Try the NIC card from your second PC in the 3rd one and see if you can connect.

| Well, I never did get it all running but I stuck a carsd in it and it is up and running fine. Still odd that it would not work with the on board LAN. Setup is as follows... Satellite>>>>Computer#1(ICS)>>>>Linksys>>>>Compute r#2(working) .................................................. .....V............................................ .... .................................................. .....V............................................ .... ..................................Computer#3(notwo rkrking)....................... Computer#1 IP:192.168.0.1 Subnet:255.255.255.0 Computer#2 IP:192.168.0.210 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway:192.168.0.1 Computer#3 IP:192.168.0.2 Subnet:255.255.255.0 Gateway:192.168.0.1 For the life of me I could not get the #3 to even ping #1 or 2. the only differance I could find is Computer 1 & 2 had Node type as mixed and computer #3 had it as hybred. Pop in new card and it was up in less than a min. My other computer with a Nvidia chip set had problems as well, but I finally got it to work. Is it just a problem with the chipset? |

| Dope Tech | whats the linksys? if its router, why do you have ICS setup? It shouldn't be needed.

| It may not be clear by my crude diagram, but the satellite is connected to computer #1. Therefore, it is my only option to share the satellite connection. Furthermore, the satellite requires software to be ran on the host PC and can not be directly connected to a router. After I make it clear I have a satellite connection it never fails for somebody to ask why I do not use cable or DSL or something else. To go ahead and answer ahead of time, please keep in mind there is a whole heck of a lot more land area in the US/world NOT covered by various non-satellite high speed internet options than they are with. I like my house, my kids like their school and I don't want to move. Forgive me if that comes off as rude, but I have to admit I am growing weary of explaining this bit of info over and over. Back to the thread already in progress..... I am realy courious if the nividia nForce 3 & 4 chip sets are to blame here. Because everything else I have tried = no problem nForce 3 = a pain in the *** but I got it to work and the nForce 4 told me to have sex with myself in a phyically impossible manner. |

| Dope Tech | i wouldnt put a router there as it complicates things. I'd put a switch but if you want wireless, you'd need a access point. to make the router act like a switch you could prolly connect the comps to the router's switch ports and connect a crossover from the router switch ports to the ICS host. you should prolly also disable any dhcp on the router.
