| I'm doing a 10-15 minute presentation on compter networking in school. Any suggestions on what to show? Currently I have a powerpoint outlining certain things about comp networking and how it works, a flash presentation on maybe how routers work, and I don't know what else to do. Since comp. networking is not the most interesting topic to talk about for 15 minutes, I need something that keeps the audience interested. Any help would help thanks ![]() |

| Memberbot | For some ideas, try www.howstuffworks.com They have good info, but summarize it a bunch so that anyone can read it and keep interested. Since the 7-layer OSI model is pretty fundemental to computer networking, that might be something to include (even though its boring to most). Example of the components of a network might be a good idea. ex: routers, switches, hubs, bridges, etc. IP addresses are another good thing to include. I think that would give about a 10-15 minute presentation. Good luck! |

| Hey slick4788, So other things to include are areas that networking is used but you may not normally think of. The checkout at the grocery store, automobile assembly, Traffic center Cameras along the interstate, even Concerts are using networking with light shows and other things, 7-11 uses it for tracking inventory, sales, and reordering supplies. Then you can mention that networking is used for Remote diagnoses of illnesses in isolated areas. I'm sure I missing a lot of areas that you wouldn't normally think of but that's a start. Good Luck |

| Hmmmm, binary in a 15 minute presentation? Don't know about that.... But I do like the other networking ideas....7-11, actually all the ideas above by Worked4ME......that's a great high level introduction...

| Master Techie | the best way to get your classes attention, is to get a LAN game going, and explain to them how it works....

| Nah this isn't a networking class, and yah I got all the network topologies covered. I liked ADZ idea of LAN gaming, probably going to show counter-strike since I can show them the latency and the netgraph...not sure what else. |
