Default computer eating bandwidth

we have 5 computers in our house joined by a router and we have broadband internet access. however, when one specific computer comes online, sometimes everyone elses internet just screws up and almost freezes.anyone got any ideas?

does the computer use some special software,such as bt software??
such software will eat your bandwidth....

Just kidding...

Get a free packet sniffer from download.com and see what kind of traffic is being created from the computer.

Download programs like Limewire and Kazaa are absolute **** on a shared network. Make sure the machine that's munching your signal isn't running one. As a corrollary, it could just be that you're just eating up all of your available bandwidth. What are your up and down speeds? 5 comps working at the same time on 768 down and 228 up will show a definite lapse in signal.

also, you may want to double check for spyware/trojans.... I've had trojans slip by AV software and eat my network alive.
