| I am trying to set up a peer-to-peer network between two computers and they are being stupid. Both have working network cards and cables and the hub, according to all the lights, is working fine. Each has a static IP (192.168.0.1 and .0.2 w/ subnet 255.255.255.0) and is running Windows XP Pro. I have connected them to the hub, plugged it in, run the network setup wizard on each, given them the same workgroup, and they aren't talking. In "View Workgroup Computers" each one is seeing that the other and itself are on the workgroup, but when I try to access the other computer it says that I don't have access rights, contact the network admin, and that "The network path could not be found." I get a similar response when I try to open one via the \\computername command. The root drive of each system is shared, and neither requires a password to log in to Windows. I can think of a few things that might be a problem. They were both linked to different networks previously, although setup for each consisted of plug it in an automatically find everything. Also, one computer is sending and recieving packets like there's no tommorrow (20K to 30K each) while the other has sent maybe 300 and recieved none. I appreciate any help. |
