Does any one know how to change the amount of time Windows XP pro times out the DHCP?
Here is what is going on:
I have an Ad-hoc network connecting my laptop to my pc.
my pc stays on the adhoc network so has a static IP address.
My laptop, however, comes to school with me. I need to get an IP address for the school's DHCP server. The adhoc network has no DHCP server (don't know if i can have my pc as one) so I to set my laptop to use the alternate configuration. When the DHCP timesout the computer goes to this alternate address.
Windows XP has a long time before it timesout though. I would like to see if there is a way to make this time shorter.
both computer have windows XP pro.
Purchasing a router is out of the question. I am a poor college student that cannot afford gas, much less a wireless g router.
I use the network to transfer files from the laptop to the pc and vice versa.
