Default cant get online after running any type of media

ok this is wierd.
i recently reformatted and installed windows xp.
i have 512 mb ddr ram.
i am on a home network of 2 computers.
before i formatted i didnt have this problem, but now after i try to watch or listen to anything that requires any type of media device (windows media, real player ect...) it will not connect to the media.
then when i try to reopen the browser i get the "cannot find server message"
nothing that connects to the net works.i have tried IE,Yahoo and my mcaffee updates afterwards and nothing can connect until i reboot my machine..what could possibly be the cause of this?
thanks in advance.

let's do this man, how about go to ipconfig/all before you open any media player, jot down the numbers, then after you listen to something, go to ipconfig/all again and jot down the numbers.

Question firewall??

could the XP firewall be turned on by any chance?

also a cable could be loose which would leave ur internet disconnected, by default that little disconnect/connect icon in the taskbar isnt displayed until u make it displayed.

i believe i found the problem will have to test it a few more times though... i had in my network settings that this computer connects directly to the internet and that other computers connect to it,,where the truth is that they both connect through a router..i hope this problem is solved.

So you don't have this problem after you open any other programs like Adobe, Word, or games? It is strange that it would disconnect you from the internet after you use a media program.

try running ipconfig from the cmd.exe first.
As to the issues, well hopefully this helps.
