| Here's an odd problem. There are two computers on a DSL router. One computer works fine. The other computer cannot go to www.yahoo.com, but can go to any other site, including mail.yahoo.com, answers.yahoo.com, etc. However, this computer used to be able to go to all sites until a few weeks ago. 1. Get this message when I try to go to www.yahoo.com "The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings." 2. Can go to command prompt (Run|Command) and type ping www.yahoo.com and it responds ok. 3. Tried installing Firefox. It also cannot go to www.yahoo.com, but can go anywhere else. So it does not appear to be the browser. 4. Tried getting another computer and moved the Ethernet cable from the bad computer to the new computer and it can access all sites ok. So it does not appear to be the network hardware. 5. In the Internet Options|Security tab, there are no Restricted sites listed. I tried adding yahoo.com to the Trusted sites, but it didnt help. 6. Enabling or disabling the Windows Firewall does not change anything. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

| King, I had cleared the cookies and the temporary internet files without any effect. Law, there is no anti-virus or anti-spyware running. The only firewall is the built-in Windows Firewall, but that did not have any effect when I disabled it. I should also mention that I tried putting the WinXP CD back in and re-installing it. I did not reformat the hard drive; I selected the "upgrade" option. After going through all of that, there was still no change! |

| So you can ping www.yahoo.com but you can't access it with the web browser right? I'm thinking a proxy or the router, sounds like an application layer. What's the brand and model of your router? Can you connect to the modem and get on www.yahoo.com? |

| Law, that's right. I can ping www.yahoo.com, but can't access it with a web browser (IE or Firefox). I tried 209.73.186.238 and that didn't work either. The router is a Dynex E401. I didn't try connecting directly to the modem. I'll try that when I go back there (it's not my computer). However, since a different computer worked using that same connection, I couldn't see how the router could be the problem. But then, I've pretty much run out of ideas, so I'm open to trying just about anything. |
