| Hey all, I've been having a lot of trouble setting up my wireless connection. My computer is a HP Pavilion ze5000. Since it doesn't have wireless built in, I bought two wirless cards. I bought two because I thought the first one didn't work, but since I have the exact same problem with both, I believe it's my computer that is the problem. Also, the wirless router in my house DOES work, as my brother uses it all the time. So I can't get the computer to think it's connected unless I enter in a static IP address manually. It proceeds to "connect". However, no information can be received (I'm not sure about sent). This happens for BOTH wireless cards I've tried to use. One is Netgear and the other one is Level One (a Japanese brand I believe). Any ideas? |

| Well.. you don't provide a lot of information in your post but the 'problem' or rather some configurability issue seems to be with the router. does it have DHCP enabled for clients(your computers)? check this topic from microsoft out, if you can;t seem to be getting anywhere: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...configure.mspx

| Thanks for the reply. What other information would be helpful? I don't know a whole lot about computers. We have an Apple Airport Extreme. It's a really bizarre problem. My brother can connect without any problems. He tried to help me, but I couldn't get connected unless i entered a static IP addres. However, once "connected", no information can be received. Is there any way I can check if there's something wrong with my wireless card port? |

| The Apple Airport extreme (for the small and inefficient device it is when it comes to troubleshooting) is not recognizing your device and assigning IP addresses by default.. as they mention when they're selling the product " Check with your brother's computer about it's subnet mask, default gateway etc. details and make sure you have the same ones fed on your machine. If it's still not working.. reply back & be prepared to get a little bit more technical Laterz Faraz

| Thanks for your reply Faraz. When I assign the IP address manually, I have to input all that other information. Only after I input it correctly, it "connects". But as I mentioned earlier, the connection can't revceive or send any info even though it says "connected". Thanks in advance for your help. ![]() |

| Master Techie | Sounds like it may not be resolving DNS. Are you entering the DNS address of your ISP when you plug in the static IP? Also list all the info exactly as you enter it when plugging in the static IP...just so we get an idea of what type of class we ware working with. |
