Default Bypassing Novell Web Client

I've got a computer tech class this semester which is a joke. :/ Not really the course I signed on for but its a free 90 pretty much.

I've been wondering about using my own laptop and the school's connection. It's with bigpipe or something like that, 100mbs, much faster then my connection. Friend plugged his in and said that everything was still blocked. But since its your own computer we'd have access to settings and what not. Thinking a simple static ip and gateway change would get around it? I really don't have much a clue, throwing out ideas Unless rapidshare isn't blocked (haven't tried yet, idea just hit me on the bus home friday). Cause it'd be awesome, download stuff at a couple mbs instead of 200kbs...

Is that possible even? Or would I maybe have better luck with a proxy program instead?
