Hi!

So the mesh networks, would that mean this would be viable for neighborhoods / states / countries .... and you would not need a broadband modem ? just an 802.11s wi fi nic ?

I do think WiMax or something like it is the wave of the future. Entire cities now provide it at little or no cost. In the 21st century, businesses and citizens can't be w/o the web.

We live in exciting times.

WiMax would be the future, replacing wired DSL?Cable modems! Actually, WiMax coverage would extend upto 45-50 kilometers under line-of-sight conditions, and about 7-9 kilometers in non-line-of-sight conditions. Typically, WiMax signals would be picked up by Access Points (APs - very small base stations!) and the signal will be used to cover the wireless clients hooked to the APs.

The APs will be in LOS with WiMax for the best possible coverage and bit rate!

Here in the USA in either Florida or more Likely Malibu in California they have 15 miles of the beach WI FI ( hot spot) accessable.

How easy is it ? What if they have WEP ? ...WPA ?
Do ppl use encryption over there on the other side of the pond ?
