| assuming you are using xp got to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc open up the hosts file in notpad and add to the end of the list, 127.0.0.1[tab]www.yourwebsite.com save and you may need to reboot, this should block the website.

| EagleMod | Are you wanting to do this to YOUR webpage to make it appear offline to visitors, or just have a certain webpage, like http://CNN.com be blocked INTERNALLY from your network? Many routers have the ability to block traffic to specific webpages.

| You can use the host file or if you have an internal DNS server you can use that also or use a proxy application. host file require that you block both www.url.com and url.com since these two entry are recognize differently on the host file. However the host file can be easily by pass if the webpage is already cache or the user use a different link or google to get to the site. DNS server would be the second method but not many will have an internal DNS server. Proxy server is the best, there's a free proxy server call EzProxy. http://www.lavasoftware.net/en/conte...y/overview.htm You can install it on a central server and configure every computer browser to contact this proxy server so you can control the URL or you can install it on individual computer and just configure their browser to contact itself, then you can manage it remotely from another computer. |
