| True Techie | am getting a connection in my dorm and i dont want ppl leeching off my connection when i install the wireless router. which program is the best to use. ? however, i do want a select few to use the connection. thx for all the info

| Lord Techie | You dont use a program These are security types that you should use WEP or WPA encryption, highest bitrate you can go with your router MAC adress filtering Some people will choose to hide the SSID, but after the 2 above security measures, noone's going very far ![]() |

| if you know you are only going to have 5 computers on your network then only let your DHCP server (may well be your router) assign 5 IP addresses, assign each computer its own IP address, assign each machines MAC address to an IP address, set your IP addresses lease time to infinite, hide your SSID. With your standard router that is normaly about the best you can get. If you are woried about people sniffing your packets then chuck on whatever encryption your router uses (normally WEP, but this is pretty shoddy). In fact encryption should be on anyway with a wireless router. |
