Angry another wireless problem

im havin a very ver annoying problem. (il take awhile to describe plz bear with me)

right ive got a linksys wireless g router (wag54g) connected to my comp through a wire, to my brothers comp on wireless-b and to my mams comp on wireless g. mine and my brothers works fine. the router is right next to my computer and my brothers is on hte same floor.

my mams is the one with the problem. its downstairs and it keeps loosing its connection. ive upgraded the pci card from a crappy ebuyer wireless-b version to a belkin wireless-g card and that hasnt helped.

the wierd thing is my mams is actaully closer to the router than my brothers. the position though is that my mams is in the extension, its like down a room and across a room so the signal has to go through the floor and a wall. about 4-5m 15-20 feet and my brother is about a 7-8m 24-27 feet.

the microwave is nowhere near any of the computers or the router and neither is the wireless phone, also there is no other near by wireless networks to cause a problem.

Does any1 have any ideas what i can do to sort this out?

i cant move the router cos there is no phone socket for my adsl near anywhere else.

thanks alot.

(sry its long winded)

what about a large power source? is there a fuse box near by or anything like that?
Have you tried changing the channels that you are using to see it that helps?

Try accessing the router configuration and change the channel that its transmitting on. Also, having a mixture of B and G on the same network is liable to cause slowdown, but not a loss of connection (i don't think).

Sorry, perhaps if i read your post, i would have seen you already tried changing the channel... Sigh. My bad. If all goes to ****, you could try the herculanean task of moving the whole rig next to the wireless router just to see if it IS a transmission issue.

I'm going to venture a guess that you don't have anyway of running wire to her machine right? No vents or internal conduits? have you tried using one of the wireless cards from your other 2 working machines to see if that makes a difference? Have you tried using a bridge/repeater? just incase something is causing signal loss...

thanks for the replies.

i have tried movin the one from downstairs right next to the router and the signal was very strong and stayed like that.

Im not allowd to put a wire through to it, mother wont let me cos would involve drilling cos no vents or anything.

i havent got a repeater to try using.

only think i can think of the metal work in the walls or floor that i causing it, but then again would that make it vary so much from being at 54 for a min then dropping to nothing the next

very confusing

Something is causing the interferance. Could be the metal. Have you thried making a omni directional dish from tim foil or sheet metal to try and aim it at that computer and see if it improved?
