Default 3Mbps Connection...but dl's are slow

Yeah, I have a 3000/300 connection...but my downloads at max run at a whopping 200k/sec. I havent seen them over that.

That was the same speed as when I had 1500/256.

Pings in games are no different, I used DSL reports and it said my connection was only at 2500/290 something.

I am really sick of the crap cableone gives me.

Could this be because I am on a wireless router? Keep in mind that my parents pc downloads about the same speed...but sometimes about 300 k/sec.

Also, my cable modem plan says that I can have a max of 3 CPE's connected. Does this mean that I can use my own cable modem on my computer? Or does it mean only routers?

well there are several reasons for this...

1. you may be downloading from a slow server.
2. The wireless router.
3. When you subscribed they did not change your cap or "quota" and so your downloads are the same.

Get rid of the wireless if you don't have a laptop just run a wire... because for maybe 2 hrs of work you get alot of speed and call your place and ask them what your service plan is and what the maximum you are currently set at is. as for slow servers sorry there is nothing you can do...

besides what are you downloading... *cough*BIT TORRENTS*cough* lol j/k

ya when i went from bell sympatico to 3web well what a hard time did I have lol. Bell sells wholesale bandwidth to 3web and 3 web sells internet for 25.99 a month compared to 50 for sympatico. Before I got 3web I had High Speed lite and my top speeds were 130 so I got 3web. Sympatico would not change my basic to a full out connection lol. It took almost 2 weeks to get them to do it. lol conveiniently... I think not more like... NOTHING lol

you need to do a powercycle on your router

1. unplug the coax/phone line from modem
2. Remove any source of power (including batteries)
3. Disconnect the CAT5
4. Wait 10 minutes
5. reconnect everything.

Than go to www.testmy.net and do a download test to see if your pulling the full 3Mbit a sec.

You are misunderstanding, 3MBit is your connection not your download speed. 3000MegaBit /8 =375 Megabytes will be about the max download you can get. Lower download sometime occur because of internet congestion, to many host on the network online, delay because of router and/or swtiches on your network and on the ISP network, to many other computer in your neighborhood (cable is a share medium), the server might be overwhelm, you may split the line to many time, etc. I can think of alot of possibility like maybe your not getting what you pay for.

Also if other computer download faster than yours, you might check to see if any software are downloading stuff without your permission ----Spywares
