Default Yeah, i finally got linux on!

After fighting with different builds to resize my partition to squeeze another on, i ran the script, rebooted, and now i have a fully functional build of linux, with word processor, a spreadsheet, and Bombsweeper .

Now all i need is to figure out how to get "The GIMP" on, get a printer setup, and add icons for Firefox. All i can find is gimp.deb to install it.

Thats another day i guess

indeed, i am excited. The only thing is that i can only use it in a wired network

I did find out how to add icons to the desktop, as the only way to change it is to logon as root.

What i'd do in your case is to get yourself a build of Knoppix, boot, and check. I prefer DSL , provided at www.damnsmalllinux.org, because it shows all your hardware on boot, and whether or not its compatible. My onboard sound on my laptop works not, but a P4 gateway with onboard will. Its all a guessing game.

I think i read somewhere on the forums that only the newest Kernel can run SATA hard drives. But since you don't use those, you shouldn't conflict.

You can add desktop icons as any user, its just a matter of how and where. What dekstop environment are you using?

Welcome to the other side! Try typing 'apt-get install gimp' in the terminal and see if it installs The GIMP. If not, cd to the directory it is located, and type 'dpkg -i gimp.deb'

This will only work if you are using a debian distrobution.
