| Re: Yay my linux came in the mail! Ubuntu seems to be good for newbies, try that. USB drivers, no problem. Graphics card drivers, no problem (if you have Nvidia, at least). Compatibility with Windows apps, ehh.... Don't count on it from any distro.

This is the distro I use and recommend, Why because it works right out of the box. No need to configure Everything, everything just works. It also comes as a 1 CD install that is a live CD that you can install later if you wish.
Kubuntu Kubuntu - The KDE Desktop
Mandriva Mandriva One - Mandriva Linux
Mephis MEPIS | discover the possibilities...
you might also like to try the distro chooser in my sig |

"Naming them would either make it clear that Linux is not infringing at all (which is quite possible, especially if the patents are bad), or would make it possible to avoid infringing by coding around whatever silly thing they claim,"
"So the whole 'We have a list and we're not telling you' should tell you something. Don't you think that if Microsoft actually had some really foolproof patent, they'd just tell us and go, 'nyaah, nyaah, nyaah!'?"
