Default xgl & compiz on debian unstable

i want to get this working, and the ubuntu "how to's" arent really helping... well they help but it doesnt want to work.

my system:

athlon 64 X2 3800+
dfi lanparty sli-dr
geforce 7800GT
2gb OCZ platinum

debian unstable 32bit
2.6.16-1-k7-smp

i added the dapper ubuntu sources to my /etc/apt/sources.list and apt-get installed what this how to said.. actually i followed this how to exactly, maybe someone can tell me what i did wrong

that one didnt work so i tried this one:

just some questions i have: is xserver-xgl my xserver, or am i still using xorg? what is compiz in relation to xgl? the kororaa live CD with XGL works perfectly on my computer so i know my hardware isnt incompatible, i just cant quite figure this out

TIA
