Ok, in Slackware 10.2 I restarted my machine, when into safe mode and then tried to go do the xorgconfig thing again so I could get my stupid middle mouse button to work.

I did everthing...

And for some reason beyond my ability to comprehend...doing that deleted EVERYTHING in that file.

I restart...bad move because my default runlevel is 5 and I cannot get into 3 to change all of this garbage because it get's stuck when it loads X11.

I put in the slackware disk to reinstall X11...and it says it cannot be completed because apparantly the file doesn't end in .tgz...which it does.

I need help, and I refuse to reinstall the dumb OS all over again.

What error are you getting, and can you show us your xorgconfig file?

I cant show anything. Literally, X11 just sits there and loads indefinatley.

I can't even get to the basic CLi.

So that means you can't Ctrl-Alt-F1?

Well, you could try changing the boot parameters to set it only to boot into init 1.

Or you could use a Knoppix disk to dump the file, and try to edit inittab to only boot to init 1...

Ah hah, I fixed it.

I pressed space and then typed "Linux 3" booted me into run level three and I re-ran xorgconfig.

The only thing is, I still cannot get my scroll button to work. I said yes to emulate 3 buttons and then selected the mouse as type "Auto"
