if it's giving you a hard drive error, see what it does say in your BIOS as far as what is there. make sure your drive is showing up as the primary master drive. if not, you'll need to check your jumper on the drive and make sure it's set properly. also make sure you have your BIOS set to auto-detect the IDE drives.
then you should be able to just pop in the cd and boot from it. slackware will begin installation automatically.
