Yes you could, you would have to Use PM8 to create a new partition (it will walk you through this) and then boot from the Linux disk and walk through the install.

WARNING!!! - Defrag your computer MANY times before this, I have had a bad experience with Linux ans Windows on 1 HD and lets just say it resulted in a new install of XP and 2 installs of Linux.

okay, i partitioned my HD for Linux to be installed. when i put in my linux disc in and rebooted, it brought up the install screen, but i got an error message:

Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:21

what does this mean?

alright, i scrapped the idea of partitioning my HD. i slaved a 120 gig HD that i had from another comp to my primary HD. whenever i try and boot and install linux i get the same error message.....is there a way i can tell it to install to a certain HD?

i have had some trouble booting linux on a windows/linux fedora machine.actually its fedora and i successfully installed it but the boot loader would not load. windows just loaded without even asking me.
here is a check list of what u should have to get to the stage i am at (trying to load the ****er)
1. ensure that u install the boot loader on the first sector of the partition
2. ensure that you specify what you will mount it on eg. "/" which is root (recommend)
3. ensure you create a swap partition (will help with installation)
4. make sure you delete the partition that was created by windows, it will then call the partition "free space" then create a new partition using the eft3 file format (something like that)
and make the partition 5000 mb. also if your hdd has more than 1024 cylinders or is an older computer make sure the partition is is the first 1024 cylinders.
hope i have helped

You did it the long way. Use PM8 to create an empty partition. Then boot to your linux disk. Mandrake is the easiest. In the setup you can create your root, swap and home partitions on that blank one you made. Easy as cheese.
