*shrug* I just used the repair function with Windows 7 on friday...

I know with XP if you repair the XP install for whatever reason, it'll hose Grub and you'll need to reinstall Grub to re-gain Linux-boot functionality.

It really comes down to this... Windows hates everything, but Grub tolerates Windows. That's why the Windows boot loader overwrites it every time, but whenever you install Grub, it auto-picks up Windows as a valid bootable entry.
