Default What is slowing down my linux box?

Ok, I just got a mini itx mobo from a friend for free, 533mhz processor 25mb ram 10gb hdd and a cd drive. I just bought 1gb of ram to max out the board working on getting a 4 gb solid state for booting and using that 10gb for storage. Now, What is causing the linux to run slow, is it my Window manager? I'm running Kubuntu with KDE, It was the last LTS I think Drapper Drake, It was the only disk I had laying Around. When I get the gb of ram and Also a video card I hope that will speed it up, what alternitives do I have?

533 mhz cannot run KDE without being outrageously slow.

Try IceWM, FVWM-Crystal, Fluxbox, or XFCE.

I suggest you try them in that order, too. All are in the ubuntu repos.

i suggest fluxbox then XFCE in that order. i like fluxbox because despite it's quirks it's a pretty good window manager and you virtually can't beat it's minimal resource use.

If you want something that has eye candy but is light try FVWM-Crystal.

Fluxbox is nice for a very light WM, but I don't think he needs that light.
