Default What Linux To Use?

I want to run Linux on one of my computers, Intel P2, it has windows 2000 now and I want to learn linux so I can later put it on ym good computer. I want the best version of Linux, maybe most popular, and a site I can download it from. And maybe some links to where I can learn about Linux.
Thanks

Red Hat is very popular from what I've heard, but also Mandrake is good for a beginner.

Knoppix is a great learning tool for linux, it boots off a cd so no need to do a permanent install.

I personally prefer Debian and Gentoo they are intermediate to advanced though.

Fedora and mandrake are great for newbies as well.

I like debian, it depends on what you like though. You may have to try a couple flavours before you find one you like.

I use Slackware, and thats what all my friends use. I don't exactly know why they say its so great, but aparently "its the best". I'm quite new at Linux also, but once I started learning it, I picked up on it very quick.
