Default Virus

i was transfering a file from my windows machine to my slackware box and when i was browsing through the slackware folders my anti-virus detected a virus. what should i use to scan the slackware machine? are viruses written specifically for a certain os?

Yeah, a Windows virus won't hurt a Linux computer I don't think. If the virus was on your Windows PC then it shouldn't damage Slackware.
