Default Video and Wireless PC Card Drivers in Mandriva 2005 LE

I've my laptop set up for dual-boot; Windows XP Home/Mandriva Linux 2005 LE. It's a Gateway 400VTX Laptop model, (1.18/2.20GHz ACPI P4; 512MB DDR SDRAM; 1024x768 LCD flat-panel; CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive; 37GB HDD paritioned with 20GB in NTFS for Windows, the remainder for Mandriva)

I use a Microsoft MN-720 Wireless PC card adapter for internet access. Mandriva will not recognize it (nor will knoppix). I'd appreciate some info on how to get Linux to work with this card. Alernatively, as I'm willing to accept that a Microsoft wireless card may not be 'capable' of running on a competing OS, a suggestion as to an alternative wireless PC card adapter (one which Mandriva would welcome) would be welcome as well.

The other issue is with the display drivers; my monitor is capable of 1024x768 24-bit color. If I try to run it at 1024x768 resolution in Mandriva, the desktop is larger than the display area -- only cutting the resolution settings back to 800x600 allows me to see the full desktop at once. If there is a way of adapting Mandriva to use the full 1024x768 capabilities of my monitor, I sure would appreciate knowing of it.

Thanks in advance,
-Cunjo

For the wireless card, you could look into Ndiswrapper:

Okay, I've determined that the one listed as #3 here is the one I need (Microsoft MN-720 80211g 54Mbps PCMCIA card - Broadcom Corporation BCM43xx, 80211b/g)

Unfortunately, I'm quite clueless as to how it would be installed. I'm very new to Mandriva, and quite new to Linux in general as well.

Research is time-consuming, and time is one thing I have very little of amidst a 77-hour workweek and everything else I need to accomplish this summer.

Once I've resolved this issue, I hope to be able to conduct more research from within the Linux environment (since it would be possible, after I have internet capabilities in Mandriva), which should speed things along. For now though, what I need isn't very forthcoming; a step-by-step for dummies, on how to install a wireless driver in Linux.

Would you know where I could find somethign like this?
