Default Uuid

anybody have an idea about uuid's present on a particular linux system?
you can get the uuid of your system by using hardware probing tools like 'hwinfo' . i know what a 'uuid' is...i just want to know that when it is created inside my system
1) on what factors it is based??
2) where is it stored?

any help is sincerely appreciated....

p.s. please don't ask me why i need something like this...thanks!!
